Storage Directions |
|
|
TEMPERATURE
:- The storage temperature
should be lower than + 25° C (70° F) and preferably lower
than + 15° C (60° F). At temperatures above + 25°
C, a certain decomposition process could be accelerated sufficiently
to affect the life expectancy of the rubber.
Exposure to low temperatures does not permanently damage the
rubber. However, it should be noted that rubber stiffens at
low temperature. Care should therefore be taken in handling
cold rubber. After fetching them from the cold storage, they
should be allowed to resume room temperature before being put
into use.

MOISTURE
:-
Moist storage space should be avoided. Moreover,
elastomer seals should not be stored in areas where condensation
occurs.
|
| |
LIGHT
:-
Vulcanised rubber should be protected from light,
particularly from direct sunlight or strong artificial light having
a high ultraviolet content.
|
| |
OXYGEN
& OZONE :-
Whenever possible, vulcanised rubber items should
be protected from circulating air. Rubber is particularly sensitive
to ozone which hastens ageing of most grades of synthetic rubber.
O-Rings, Seals etc. should not be stored in areas where devices
that can generate ozone are installed such as electric motors
or other equipment which generates sparks or electrical discharges.
|
| |
DEFORMATION
:-
O-Rings, seals, wiper rings, backup rings etc.
should be stored in their original packages until mounted. This
will avoid size and grade mix-ups while simultaneously protecting
the rings from external elongation, compression or other types
of deformation. O-Rings and seals and other types of rings should
not be hung directly on nails or the like since this can lead
to a permanent change of shape.
O-Rings and seals are packed and stored in polyethene bags. These
bags provide certain protection against the attacks mentioned
above.
